The James Barry-Robinson Institute (JBRI) has fulfilled a decades-long mission to improve the lives of children in Norfolk, Virginia, and the Hampton Roads region.
Since 1995, JBRI’s nonprofit foster care program has provided positive homes for youth with behavioral and emotional challenges.
JBRI is a nonprofit foster care organization providing treatment foster care and managing foster parent recruitment and training in Hampton Roads, Virginia. Most of our foster families live in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Newport News, and Hampton.
When a situation requires a child to be removed from their biological family, we can place them with a stable and loving foster parent. We work closely with our foster parents to ensure the right fit between the foster family and the child.
Our foster parents are an integral part of our professional team, who provide care and stability to these vulnerable children and teens.

There are many reasons why people become foster parents. Caring about children is universal.
Some feel the need for service, to give back to their community. Others may want to continue parenting once their own children have left the nest.
Whatever your reason, the rewards of becoming a foster parent are many, including the feeling you get by making a difference in a child’s life and
forming lifelong relationships with the children you foster.
At JBRI, our foster parents are provided with ongoing training and support, and receive financial assistance, with the amount
dependent on the child’s clinical needs.
The James Barry-Robinson Institute is a nonprofit that has been helping foster children in Hampton Roads find loving homes for more than 25 years. Currently, there are more than 5,000 children and teens that need foster homes in Virginia, and we are working with local coffee shops to encourage individuals to explore becoming foster parents.
Hugs on Mugs is a heartfelt campaign designed to raise awareness about the vital role of foster parents. By emphasizing the essential qualities of Hope, Unconditional love, Guidance, and Support, we seek to inspire compassion and commitment to fostering. We extend our sincere gratitude to our coffee shop partners for their collaboration in this important mission, helping to spread awareness and foster a nurturing community for children in need. Together, we can make a difference!
